Kip's correspondence includes six letters to his brother Henry de Valcourt Kip, 1852-1854, concerning Canton news, the railroad, school, and family news; letters from the West to his family in Canton, primarily Albert R. Kip and Henry D. Kip, and to the editor of the Canton newspaper, ST. LAWRENCE PLAINDEALER, 1855-1861, discussing mining, politics in the West, problems with Mexico, his jobs, his travels, descriptions of Downieville and other California towns, forest fires, and trouble with Indians; and four letters written while in the Army from New Orleans and Memphis, 1864-1865. Other items include letters by Albert R. Kip and Cornelia Kip concerning family news, Frank's pension, and local events, 1852-1866; and deeds, pension papers, photographs, and genealogical chart, ca. 1855-1871.
